Individual Treatment for Childhood Trauma
Individual Treatment for Childhood Trauma
“To give up our belief in a schema would be to surrender the security of knowing who we are
and what the world is like, therefore we cling to it, even when it hurts us”
- Jeffrey Young
Many adults never had an opportunity to acknowledge and process trauma which occurred to them in childhood and which continues to have an impact on their lives. My treatment of trauma is informed by Schema Therapy as well as the Relationship Recovery Process. Both models emphasize the importance of childhood needs that were not met and work towards meeting those needs, in a limited way, through the therapy relationship. We work towards strengthening the adult self as well as healing trauma memories. Various experiential interventions including imagery, mode / voice dialogues, empathic confrontation, reparenting, and the 1-2-3 method in
RRP are incorporated into the work of strengthening all parts of you so that you can live a life that is more meaningful and free.
